1. Create a project

o   STEP 1: Project’s Geometry

You can dimension your building design by creating a project and by entering data in the table of the Project’s Geometry. Each row represents an element. You have to supply following characteristics of each element: name, element category, dimension (surface in m²), quantity and element type.

In the last column you have to link an element-type to each element in your design. Element types are either predefined, or userdefined. You can define your own element-types (see film 2 and 3 ’create element types’).

If you import an IFC-file, some characteristics from the original IFC-file will be preserved in the Geometry-table. The remaining characteristics have to be completed manually.

You can create element-types in your Project starting from predefined elements in the Library: layers can be added, deleted, rearranged, … Crayon icone  Furthermore, the composition of layers can be adapted to the user’s needs. Once completed, an element type can be saved to the library Upload icine. After composing element-types, you can attribute an element type to each element in the Geometry-table.

Alternatively, you can create element-types in your Project starting from scratch.

 

2. Results & Report:

You can calculate the corresponding total environmental impact on element-level (in ’Element types’) or on building level (Geometry table): click the ‘calculator’-icon Calculate icone .  A pop-up will appear with an overall score (for the element/building) and the relative impact for each element category (for the building).

More detailed information is available via the link in the pop-up. You can get information on the environmental impact related to:

·         Impact per material/element category   

·         Impact ‘materials’ versus energy (=transmission losses during 60 years of building use)

·         Impact by life cycle stages (production phase, use phase, end of life)

·         environmental impact categories (climate change, eutrophication, land use, …)

 

3. Compare

You can compare the environmental impact of various elements or buildings  by clicking on the compare button Compare icone on element/building level a pop-up appears in which you can select another element/building to compare (from project or from library). After this step the ‘calculator’ Calculate icone will permit to obtain other design alternatives results (overall or detailed). (maximum 4 elements/buildings can be compared.

 

4. Upload an IFC-file

Users can import an IFC-file in order to reuse the original data from the 3D design (made in Sketchup, Revit or Archicad). Once the data & 3D

Once the data & 3D-visualisation have been uploaded, you can select which data you want to use in the tool for your project. The 3D-visualisation can be used as extra support: by clicking on each data row 3D icone you can easily find the corresponding element in the building sketch.

If your IFC-file is bigger than 4MB, we advise you, for the time being, to upload a maximum of 100 elements (by selecting procedure, see film 6).

If you do not use the IFC-import functionality, you can enter the data manually in the Project ’s Geometry (see film Project’s Geometry)
